You’re reading my life and my time,
wondering what to do.
You won’t be my wife, won’t be mine;
what’s it mean to you?
But you just don’t wake my soul,
So you cannot take control.

Where did we go so wrong?
When did we go so wrong?
Keep your nose where it belongs!
My heart’s long gone.

You sit in that office and you talk about my past.
You come here so often
like my clock is running fast.
I won’t happen overnight,
And some things don’t go so right.

Where did I go so wrong?
Why did I go so wrong?
Why is it me you’re counting on?
I take so long…

Think I know the reason
you depend on my success:
Vicariously live through me;
you’re life’s such a mess
Because time will take its toll
And I’ll never make your goal.

Where did you go so wrong?
When did you go so wrong?
It’s not me who "must be strong",
It’s you who’s wrong!

Liner Notes:

I wasn't really satisfied with the lyrics to this song, because it was influenced more by a TV show I watched the night before writing this song than anything that had occurred in my own life. Furthermore, it really didn't fit the "White Collar Punk" concept at all. Still, it got recorded, so here it is.

The song depicts the protagonist's struggle to live against the unreasonable expectations of controlling women in his life. Perhaps that woman is his mother, perhaps a high-school guidance councellor, perhaps a social worker, or maybe a girlfriend. His message to them: "Get a life!"

I guess at the point I was working on the lyrics I was in a bit of a dry spell because work had become very undemanding: I had no material! I wonder if Scott Adams ever has times where nobody at work does anything stupid and he can't write Dilbert.

I did eventually write new lyrics which are about a completely different subject, although I canibalized this version for various rhymes and rhythms. Alas, that version hasn't been recorded yet. I still feel the rhymes need more variation... (Yeah, right! Who am I kidding? It's because I've been at work all the time and havn't been home enough to record a new version!)

The music, on the other hand, I am very proud of. I was working hard to achieve a more polished, layered sound for the newer songs. It was recorded within weeks of Running Down, so it has a very similar sound. On the other hand, the lyrics for that song were written nearly a year before  So Wrong had anything more than a chorus and some scat words.

Punk without the finger
The song is not my thing. I think it has a place, just not in my ears

The Cure covers the Ramones
Warmed-over 80's track, tasting mighty stale from the microwave.
The sound is thin....beef it up, boys!

Who are you kidding
Some Robert Smith Wanna-Be with a 15 watt guitar amp and a casio keyboard.

It does have gratuitous use of the Casio CZ-1000... I like the sound!

Punk Lives!!!
If someone in the band can sing, put them in front of the mic.
Thanks.

Somebody finally gets it!

I just can't understand why this isn't number 1.
Excellent. It follows ALL the rules a good song should. Refrain, Chorus, Lead break, nice predictable lyrics about the women in your life. Fits the formula very well, I'm glad you've chosen not to deviate from the norm in any way whatsoever, it is SO disturbing when music is not completely predictable and formulaic. And such a high quality of recording and instrumentation. I just can't understand why this isn't number 1.

This review was actually retaliation for a bad review which I gave to another band, which might explain why it's so sarcastic...

Bee-Bop techno
I hear a hint of what you are trying to do - I actually like beebop techno. With better production and direction this would have been pretty good. The ending left you stranded.

Greenday played through a keyboard, badly.
